Initiatives

  • NOBTS

Nobts is the learning, sharing, and collaborating part of La Terre. Workshops introduce members to people, resources, and ideas that might serve this vision: to thrive!

  • Permaculture Experiment

A permaculture design has been developed and an experiment devised for La Terre’s 23 acres of forest land in southern Mississippi in order to practice the principles of permaculture and develop specific models for doing it here, in this home place.

  • Bioregional Site Evaluations, or Assays

By assay, we mean to examine or investigate the land around us as an ecosystem in order to get a sense of its character. For human and land to thrive, more of us [many more] must become what we call “sustaining partners” with our “home place” and it’s surrounding ecosystems.

Through the assays, we first come to know how the land works, how it changes over a day, over a year so that we might determine how we as humans might fit within that “order.” Participants become deeply connected to the land and more intimate with it and eventually become sustaining partners, stewards of the land and its ecosystem. La Terre provides techniques to conduct these assays.

  • Vision Quest

Vision quests provide participants with a profound sense of their authentic self and the gifts they uniquely possess as they launch out on a “path with heart.” Vision Quests have been conducted at La Terre since 1990.

  • Ecological Community

Ten acres of forested land in south Mississippi has been relegated for use to build an “ecological community.” Through community building we might explore how we might be and work with others, intimately, cooperatively, on shared goals and interests, cologically, as “sustaining partners” with this unique piece of land.
